VRSS was initially intended to be a one-day seminar in Toronto that would attract our Ontario cottage country owners. We then found that the majority of attendees were coming from the US and around the world, and realized we’d tapped into a global need for quality learning and networking from a much wider audience. The first event in 2016 was a huge success and feedback was universally positive. We also had an overwhelming endorsement of the location and venue. It’s a dedicated learning space with amazing resources, food, and accommodation on site, and allows us to have exhibitor space as well. Airbnb is our primary sponsor with Canada Stays coming back for the second year at a Gold sponsorship level, and we have selected exhibitors to showcase some of the best vacation rental resources available. Our focus is on helping owners and small property managers maintain their independence while appreciating that the major listing sites will still be an important part of an overall marketing strategy. We think we have the balance right and know this event will continue to grow and take its place as the #1 independent event in North America.
Anyone who has a passion for the vacation rental industry from those who have not yet taken the leap into purchasing a property to seasoned veterans with anywhere from one to 100 + properties. We had one delegate last year who was reluctant to attend because he wasn’t a property owner. We persuaded him to come and are happy to report that 4 weeks after the event, he was a vacation rental owner, and a month later, was busy booking his high season. A year later, he will be at the Summit sharing what he learned in his first year of vacation rental success. There are three learning tracks; for independent owners; property managers, and a dedicated marketing track. Access to each track is open to all, but some presentations may be better suited to different delegates.

Among our 26 presenters, we’ve amassed some of the best in the VR business. They come from across the spectrum of industry expertise from our keynote speakers including Matt Landau from the Vacation Rental Marketing Blog, and industry expert Eric Mason of the massively popular Linkedin group, Vacation Rental Professionals, and Aaron Zifkin, director of the America’s for Airbnb, to our incredibly accomplished session presenters such as Rental United’s own Vanessa de Souza Lage, Evelyn Badia from The Hosting Journey and Richard Vaughton from Rentivo.
We’ve asked all our presenters to make sure their content is chock full of actions that attendees can take that do not rely on purchasing their products or services. We’ve found that some speakers at other events offer tempting snippets of information, but withhold the good stuff for those who buy. In the spirit of the “Help Don’t Sell” philosophy, we want our delegates to learn big-time from each session without feeling they have been to a thinly disguised sales pitch.
