Last year, our main aim with our content was to help property managers find solutions to navigate the COVID-19 crisis.
We chose to cover the topics in our downloadables we believe best reflected this intention. We talked a lot about tactics to recover lost revenue, strategies to build more resilient business models, and which channels we believed would benefit you to get listed on.
A lot of time and effort from the team went into these downloadables, and we are pretty proud of what we were able to achieve together over the course of the year. While our team certainly achieved much more than what’s listed below, we’ve compiled some of our favourite highlights and fabulous infographics in this blog post.
So jump in and take a look at our favourite downloadables and infographics from last year, and if you haven’t already, we recommend a download. You never know, you may have missed some useful tips that you can implement in your business this year!
We put together a list of the biggest, best and boldest property managers in the vacation rental industry for the fourth year running.
It took hours of investigative work from our team, and it really was a labour of love! The World’s Top 50 Property Managers list is an annual ranking by rental numbers of the world’s largest short-term rental property managers. It is compiled and published in October annually by us, Rentals United.
Despite 2020 being a challenging year for the vacation rental industry, we still wanted to make the Top 50 list a cause for celebration. Property management companies worldwide have shown incredible resilience and proven that their business models are more than prepared to survive a crisis of unprecedented magnitude.
That’s why we not only chose 50 property managers to highlight, but we also created a free downloadable which contains exclusive information about the largest short-term rental property managers in the world from the number of vacation rentals, market, CEO, growth strategy and so much more.
Property Management Systems (PMSs) are essential tools for vacation rental management companies of all sizes. We all know the level of guest experience that today’s most successful property managers provide wouldn’t be possible without a PMS to make sure that things run smoothly and efficiently behind the scenes.
At Rentals United, we believe that PMSs and channel managers can work together in a way that generates endless opportunities for property managers aiming to grow their businesses.
We want to help you make sense of what’s out there – and find the best solution for you.
That’s why, every year, we ask our PMS partners to provide us with detailed information about their products.
We then compiled all this information into a free and glossy listing download which contains detailed information on 54 worldwide property management systems (partners and non-partners included).
The resource contains a break down of what each PMS has to offer including:
The whole ebook is set out in a clear and accessible format, so you can easily explore the unique functionalities of the top 50+ PMSs.
The short-term rental industry landscape is continually adapting and changing. However, since the COVID-19 pandemic, it has become increasingly evident that property managers and owners need to diversify their marketing to frictionlessly distribute their listings to global and niche sites.
But we also noticed that the crisis also highlighted the need for adaptability and flexibility when it comes to the length of stay. Diversification & risk management will be the keys to survival in the new world.
To help property managers out there weather the storm, we scoured through our own data as well as insights from other sources to identify strategies that could help property managers weather the storm.
We created The Next Business Model: How to secure your short-term rental business with mid-and long-term bookings.
In this ebook, we take you through:

Ahead of the coronavirus crisis, it became more evident that property managers need to diversify their marketing mix and grow less dependent on large OTAs.
And if the challenging year behind us has taught us anything, having multiple different bookings sources is vital.
We did some digging and looked through our own statistics to find that the most successful property managers are connected to an average of 11 channels, including the big 5 (Airbnb, Booking.com, Agoda, Expedia and Vrbo).
That leaves six other channels that help them generate more bookings, boost occupancy, and increase visibility, helping to cover as much ground as they can to increase their bookings.
More often than not, these channels are high-performing niche websites that target specific types of travellers and drive incremental bookings.
Niche websites are great for generating more bookings, boosting your occupancy, and even increasing your revenue per booking. They’re an essential part of a balanced vacation rental distribution strategy next to large OTAs and your own direct booking website.
In this eBook titled “The Who’s Who of Short-Term Rental Listing Sites”, we rounded up 40+ top-performing niche channels to get listed on. Take a look and you might be surprised by what you find.
Last Year we brought you the Secret sauce of Large OTAs and the second season of Large Property Managers.
The Secret Sauce of Large OTAs consists of interviews with three of the largest OTAs: Expedia, Agoda and Booking.com. Vanessa deep dived to reveal their secret strategies as well as discussing how they have coped with the crisis.
Packed with expert advice, insider tips and upcoming trends, the Secret Sauce of Large OTA’s is a great resource if you want to emulate their secret recipe and optimise your properties on the largest OTA’s.

As a helping hand we also brought out the second season of The Secret Sauce of Property Managers, interviewing short-term rental property managers from across the world to discuss their built-up expertise, experiences and know-how.
From them, you will hear how they persevered through the global pandemic, how they managed to attract new traveller personas, what their strategies are now, their outlook for the future and many more insights.
