Tiny Away partners with Australian landowners to host nature lovers in tiny houses

Tiny Away was founded in 2017 to offer city dwellers an escape into nature. The company now manages 64 tiny houses in New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia. By partnering with local landowners and turning them into tiny house hosts, they’re promoting eco-tourism in rural areas and helping land hosts earn extra income.

Tiny Away provides a fresh take on the tiny house movement. They offer unique getaways close to nature that allow travellers to reconnect with the outdoors and enjoy spectacular rural settings.

Since the beginning, Tiny Away has worked closely with Australian farm and property owners to curate authentic tiny house experiences and help farmers leverage local tourism and generate a second income.

The company invites farmers and property owners to become land hosts through their platform at no cost. They provide land hosts with a fully furnished tiny house made from sustainable materials with all the necessary fittings, ready for guests to stay.

Hosts can earn up to 45% of the rental revenue share. All they need to do is cover the costs of utilities, welcome guests and keep the tiny house clean. Tiny Away works closely with hosts to solve any potential maintenance issues. And, the company takes care of marketing and guest communications.

Tiny house enthusiasts can also buy tiny houses which are manufactured by the business’s building branch, Build Tiny. They are made of environmentally-friendly materials and equipped with solar panels and composting toilets.

As their inventory of tiny houses around Australia started to grow, Tiny Away was looking for a partner to help them expand their reach and get more bookings. The Rentals United channel manager was recommended to them by their PMS provider Guesty.

So far, they have connected their properties to two channels – Glamping Hub and Google – through Rentals United. The result has been a 10% increase in occupancy, a 10% increase in bookings and a 10% increase in revenue.

In the past year, like most property managers around the world, Tiny Away has faced some challenges due to travel restrictions and lockdowns. Even though they had cancellations from international travellers, they were able to attract bookings from domestic guests.

To maximise safety for everyone, they implemented contact tracing, asking guests to declare if they’ve been to any COVID-19 hotspots and inform them of their residential postcodes. They also adopted a CovidSafe Plan based on the Australian Government’s requirements and guidelines.

With its sustainable tiny houses, Tiny Away takes the glamping experience to the next level for guests, contributes to boosting eco-tourism in secluded locations and offers farmers a new stream of revenue.
